Meet Grier Rubeling

Transition Consultant

Welcome!

Are you a financial advisor who wants to start or join an RIA, or an existing RIA recruiting and onboarding advisors? Looking for some helpful information about transitioning a book of business?

There’s so much information out there and it’s easy to get overwhelmed or frustrated by the lack of transparency in this highly regulated and enigmatic industry.

I can help with that.

Hi, I'm Grier Rubeling

I help advisors and existing firms navigate and understand the administrative and operational aspects of transitioning a book of business.

Capitalizing on my unique background and years of experience, I’ve developed a comprehensive list of things that every advisor should be considering, researching, and executing during the due diligence and planning process. I’ve generated an extensive collection of resources to supplement that list.

How It All Began

When I graduated from Virginia Tech in 2007 with a degree in marketing management, one month after what still remains the deadliest shooting on a college campus, I was plunged into the “real world” with little congratulatory fanfare, no idea what kind of career I wanted, and a degree in a field with no lack of job candidates.

After receiving no reply to a bunch of entry-level marketing job applications, I interviewed for an open client service associate position at Smith Barney in Baltimore, and after agreeing to pass the Series 7 within six months (something I had to Google after the interview), I was offered the job.

I spent about a year working for an advisor before he jumped ship and asked me to accompany him. I followed him to UBS, where I transitioned his book of business. At the time, I knew nothing about the process. I learned quickly, stepped into my element, and subsequently became the branch’s new transition consultant. I assisted with all new acquisitions back when the wirehouse wars were still raging.

My personal life path eventually landed me in Raleigh, North Carolina. I spent about a year working at UBS with an advisor before he decided to jump ship and start his own RIA with a partner.

I transitioned both of their books of business and settled in as the Director of Operations for their new RIA. I helped transition several acquisitions to their firm during the years that I worked with them.

Why I Started My Own Business

Eventually, I recognized that my passion is helping advisors with transitions. I admired those individuals willing to part ways with their employers to pursue a more independent path and I longed for the same freedom and control over my own situation.

In 2018, I founded Advisor Transition Services. I wanted to help advisors navigate the difficulties of transitions. It began as a way to provide administrative and operational support to those who didn’t have their own staff. Since inception, my business has evolved to include a significant consulting aspect. I worked with so many advisors to prepare their transitions while they were in the due diligence and planning phases of their startups. I gained valuable experience and insight into the process and spent a lot of time doing additional research.

I developed a comprehensive checklist and spend my free time cultivating an arsenal of relevant and valuable resources to accompany that list.

Let's Get Personal

Now that I’m a business owner, I finally get to use my marketing degree to market myself and my business the way I see fit. I try to bring an artistic flair, modern design, and a touch of femininity to the mix. It’s time to shake this industry up a bit!

I fully believe that we are all more than just “what we do”, or “how we make money”. People want to hear your story and relate to you in more ways than one.

I started a blog a number of years ago called The Craft Crib, and it’s a collection of do-it-yourself tutorials: furniture makeovers, crafts, and edible art. I compete on the national level in gingerbread competitions and I’ve been featured on the Food Network, twice!

I’m also a wife and mother of two young daughters. I enjoy watching and playing sports, reading, woodworking, making art with food, and I have a love for really good craft beer.

I’m an enthusiastic advocate for individuals wanting to become true entrepreneurs and live their best lives. If that describes you, we should chat.

The best way to capitalize on my unique background and knowledge is to subscribe to my mailing list. I’ll send you updates only when I deem them important enough.
